I think a number of things.
Number of things 1
It easy to lose track of your origional vision once you have a budget of over say $100.00
It is easy to lose track of your origional vision period.
A good movie (full length) is one that you do not really want to watch in the first place but find yourself enjoying for whatever reason.
Titan AE comes to mind.
At our or at least my level. I use the "Flowers For Algernon Concept"
In that with little or no budget if you have designs on making the next great epic and doing most of the work yourself, you are either in the mensa society or a loon.
If it can not be broken down to an effective five page short story.
Not screen play but short story......

I refuse to comment on the merits of Titan A.E. You're being too generous there Ralph, the first film I made I didn't have more then 10 bucks, and still lost sight of what I was doing, getting stars in my eyes, dreaming of millions seeing the first film ever made by world famour director 'Thousanth'.
I said there was a 6 to 1 ratio of good films to bad films and I was referring to Hollywood pictures, that number skyrockets to 1,000 to 1 once you factor in docus, indie and low budget films.
The point is we expect so much when we are compassed by bad movies.

"Welcome to the Black Lagoon - Please wipe your feet."

Well, it was just a number pulled out of a head for an example. The basic point I think is still valid, that we filmmakers tend to say "Pish, Hollywood sure sucks look at all the crappy movies they make! Now, indie films have never let me down." But that's because we only get exposed to the very best indie films, because anything but the best has no chance of distribution.

I was just wondering how long it would take the average person to get bord doing the same thing and or hearing the same thing as such over and over and over aND OVER AND OVER AND OVERE AND OVER AND OVER.
ok it took me just under 45 seconds to type the above paragraph and about 15 seconds to reread it just now.
If you can not make an audience go what the living F;;K in 120seconds and tell a story at the same time you should possibly reconsider what you want to do as a living or a hobby.
This is real time not production time.
Anyone can learn but there are few things worse than spending a year at something stepping back and saying.
"God I stink at this."

loads of laughs...
how about spending 3 years on something, and then stepping back and saying 'God I stinkl at this' !!!!
a wee phrase comes to mind:
A fool who knows that he is a fool, is no longer a fool.
you make me laugh Ralphy
